…hold New Year Get-together

His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, PhD, of Akwa Ibom State has been unanimously endorsed for a second term of four years ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election in the state. Also endorsed for reelection were Senate President Godswill Akpabio and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking on Friday, January 9, 2026, during their New Year Get-together held in Uyo, the Chancellor of Umo Eno Volunteers for 8 Initiative, Hon. Ubong Iyoho, stated that the group’s supports for the governor, Senate President and President Tinubu were predicated upon their sterling performances since assumption of office in 2023.
“Although there’s an existing precedent that all the past governors in the state served for two terms, there are many added reasons to prove that His Excellency, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, PhD, is overdue for a second term”, the Chancellor noted in his opening remarks, adding that the group birthed to ensure the actualization of the second term victory for the governor and others.
Continuing, Hon. Iyoho, who is also a former Nsit Ibom Local Government Council Chairman said: “I want to thank all of us who have been volunteering in preaching the gospel of His Excellency and his good works in every nook and cranny of the state.
This get-together party, although hurriedly planned, is to create an opportunity for us to meet, wine, dine and merry to appreciate God for the gift of the New Year. It’s also an avenue for us to thank ourselves for our efforts so far.
I want to encourage us to redouble our efforts at this stage of working for the actualization of the task before us, knowing that a time for eating will surely come after we would have succeeded in volunteering for the reelection victories for our governor, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, come 2027”.
On her part, the group’s Dean of Women Affairs, Obonganwan Dora Ebong, while speaking on the import of the get-together, advised members of the APC to embrace the ‘Akwa Ibom United’ philosophy of the governor.
She urged everyone to come together, shun any bickerings and work towards the success of the party at all levels of next year’s elections.
“We quite understand that as far as politics is concerned, there would certainly be some people who feel unsatisfied. But we must play down on any ill-feelings that might promote division. Our governor is doing well. We must mobilize the women, youths and the men to support him and other candidates of our great party”
Other dignitaries who spoke during the event included the pioneer APC State Vice Chairmen, Akwa Ibom Northwest (Ikot Ekpene) Senatorial District; Obong Kufre Inyangette and Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District; Pastor Emmanuel Oton.
Other speakers included a former Chief Protocol to the governor; Akparawa Imerh Okon, Pioneer APC State Youth Leader; Comrade Idara Udoh, former APC candidate for Etinan State Constituency; Obonginwek Unyime Ekwere, Abai Tony Okpon, Alhaji Mohammed Adamu who spoke on behalf of the Non-indigenes residing in the state, amongst others.
Highpoint of the occasion which was attended by the Executives and coordinators of the organization, was unanimous endorsements of the 2027 re-election bids of Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, Senator representing Akwa Ibom Northwest (Ikot Ekpene) Senatorial District and Senate President; Distinguished Sen. Godswill Akpabio and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
