Wike, Son FCT Land Scandal: Police detains AGIS operative over document leakage
A staff member of the Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS), Mairiga Hassan Shaharu, has reportedly been arrested by the police in Abuja in connection with the leak of sensitive information concerning the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.
According to media reports, Shaharu, who is assigned to the Fresh Applications Unit at AGIS, was apprehended on Tuesday afternoon as authorities intensified efforts to trace the source behind the disclosure of documents allegedly exposing land allocations linked to Wike’s son.
It was gathered that the arrest follows reports suggesting that Minister Wike may have used his office to facilitate questionable land allocations in Abuja for members of his family.
The leak which as learnt, has stirred public and political interest, has prompted a wider investigation into potential abuse of office and the handling of land records within AGIS. Law enforcement officials are continuing their probe to determine whether Shaharu acted alone or as part of a larger network.
