Abducted Kwara resident, Alhaji Gbechi, regains freedom without ransom

Alhaji Adam Gbechi, who was abducted by bandits after a terrifying raid on his community, has reportedly been released and has returned home safely this morning. His freedom comes barely a day after his captors demanded a ransom of ₦150 million.

According to a close relative who spoke to Nupekotvlafiagi on condition of anonymity, Alhaji Gbechi’s release was secured without the payment of the exorbitant ransom. When asked if the family had paid the money, the source simply replied, “No.”

Alhaji Gbechi was kidnapped from his home in Lata Nna on Sunday night alongside his brother, Alhaji Aji Hajaworo, and a married woman. The two were fortunate enough to make a daring escape shortly after their abduction. Alhaji Gbechi, however, remained in captivity, and his family had expressed their inability to meet the kidnappers’ enormous financial demand.

The circumstances surrounding his release without ransom are still unclear, leaving the community to wonder what led to this dramatic turn of events. While his family and the community are overjoyed by his safe return, the incident highlights the unpredictable and often life-threatening nature of the ongoing security crisis in Kwara North.
