A’Ibom Coalition leader slams Gov Eno’s ‘mischievous’, ‘vague’ projects

…questions International Hospital, others

The leader of Opposition Coalition in Akwa Ibom State; Obong (Dr) Uduakobong Udoh has described the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno’s planned Ibom International Hospital project as mischievous, questioning the quality of leaders in the state. Dr Uduak bared his mind during a chat with newsmen at the Headquarters of Opposition Coalition in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Dr. Uduakobong Udoh was reacting to a statement yesterday in which Gov Umo Eno was quoted to have said that he had presided over the State Executive Council meeting during which 357 new projects were approved for execution, including a 350-bed world-class medical facility (Ibom International Hospital).

Questioning the rationale of a new ‘International hospital’ when, according to him, the Ibom Specialist Hospital built by former Governor (now Senate President) Godswill Akpabio, had not been put to maximum use, Obong Uduak called for accountability from the governor.

According to the 2023 Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate “The Ibom International Hospital is nothing short of mischief on the side of this present administration”.

He continued “To think that we have Ibom Specialist Hospital which was built by Gov. Akpabio, and it has not been put to maximum use and here we are talking about Ibom International Hospital, shows the quality of people we have in the State Executive Council.

Recall, that this same administration had once proposed a real estate in Lagos as well as a 3-Star hotel in Abuja. We don’t know what stage those two projects are right now”.

Speaking further, Obong Uduak Udoh said the new projects ‘touted’ by the governor was vague. He also critiqued Gov Umo Eno’s CNG buses claims and decried the abandonment of the Green House project which he noted was built with billions of Naira during Ex-gov Udom Emmanuel’s administration.

“Even the 357 new projects being touted is not clear to Akwa Ibom people.

During the removal of fuel subsidy, this administration of Gov Umo Eno said they would provide CNG buses to ameliorate the suffering of citizens. Two years later, they are still talking about wanting to order more CNG buses to make it fifty in total, whereas recently, members of the State House of Assembly, National Assembly, some Political leaders in Akwa Ibom were rewarded with SUVs and cash, just to facilitate Gov. Umo Eno’s decamping to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

“In Umo Eno’s “ARISE AGENDA”, agricultural development is highlighted, but the Green House that was built during Gov Udom Emmanuel’s first term lies waste, strategically located by the entrance of the Obong Victor Attah International Airport as a spectacle of shame. Billions of naira of Akwa Ibom money was spent on that project, yet abandoned. No one is asking questions.

Having said this, this current administration lacks good thinking and fore sight. It is a political town hall government moving from one Local Government to another scouting for endorsement by political elites whilst undermining the plight and sensibility of its citizens.

“The allocation that comes into our State is enough to alleviate all Akwa Ibomites from poverty, yet Gov Umo Eno is bent on showing impunity and reckless abandon to the poor masses and the teeming youths across the length and breadth of Akwa Ibom State.

In two years of Governor Umo Eno’s administration, he has done more political town halls for endorsement against 2027 than he has touch lives and/or change the fortunes of Akwa Ibom people. This is sad indeed.

I am calling on Akwa Ibom people, home and abroad to speak up and start demanding accountability from this administration. We are not a conquered people”, Obong Uduakobong Udoh reasoned.
