We’ve seen merits of Simon Ekpa’s arrest in S/East – Defence Chief

Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, says the arrest of pro-Biafran agitator Simon Ekpa in Finland has significantly improved security in the South East region.

Ekpa, a self-styled disciple of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu, was apprehended in November 2024 on terrorism-related charges and is currently facing prosecution in Finland.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, General Musa confirmed that military operations are ongoing to dismantle Ekpa’s network in Nigeria. He disclosed that troops are targeting the agitator’s lieutenants across Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Abia states.

“He’s still undergoing prosecution in Finland. And so we’re hopeful,” the Defence Chief said, adding that the clampdown has already reduced violent incidents linked to separatist groups in the region.
