2027: Ikot Abasi group backs Nsima Ekere for Senate

…drums support for Gov Eno, Sen Akpabio

By Ime Silas

As the processes toward the 2027 general elections are set to begin, socio-political groups and individuals have not hidden their preferences for different aspirants, while some have openly called on others to join the electoral contest for certain positions.

One of such groups is Ikot Abasi Progressives Front (IPF) which has thrown its weight behind a former deputy governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Obong Nsima Ekere to run for the Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District seat, come 2027.

IPF in a statement dated August 25, 2025 and jointly signed by its National Coordinator; Obong Stephen Ndah and National Secretary; Hon. Archibong Abikpa Archibong, expressed its disappoinment at what it described as “absence of any meaningful development in the Senatorial District”.

The Front noted that the solution was to elect as a senator, a man with track record of attracting developmental projects, for the Senatorial District.

“It would be hypocritical should we feign ignorance of the total backwardness of the entire Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District even when the District produces the greater bulk of income in the state”, part of IPF’s statement, a copy of which was obtained by our correspondent, read.

Describing Obong Nsima Ekere as “the solution”, the group continued “At a time like this, we can only hope on a solution, and that solution for Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District is Obong Nsima Ekere.

It is still fresh in our memories that the first time Akwa Ibom State heard and truly felt the existence and impact of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) was when Obong Nsima Ekere was its Managing Director. He ensured that what was due to Akwa Ibom State was rightly given.

He has been tested through the NDDC appointment. He did not disappoint. Obong Nsima Ekere laid bare an unparalleled commitment to developing the Niger Delta states including Akwa Ibom State hence, our belief that he would give the people of Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District a purposeful and impactful legislative representation”.

The IPF in the statement, also commended the Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno for taking the state to the centre through his historic Progressive Movement to the All Progressives Congress (APC), his developmental strides; as well as the Senate President, Sen. Godswill Akpabio for his exceptional leadership style at the 10th Senate.

The group declared their support for Gov Umo Eno’s second term bid and also called for Akwa Ibom Northwest (Ikot Ekpene) Senatorial District to support the Senate President, Sen. Godswill Obot Akpabio to return to the Senate, come 2027 in order to continue his good works in the leadership of the national assembly.
