…is there anything fishy?
When the notorious armed robbers Lawrence Anini and Monday Osunbor who terrorized Benin city and its axis in mid 80s were arrested, the Mobile Police officer, Kayode Uaneroro who led the operation deemed it wise to shoot Anini on his leg to preserve his life, so as to give evidence against his supporters, funders, collaborators and conspirators.
It was through the mouth of Lawrence Anini that Nigerians later found out that a certain police officer, DSP George Iyamu was among their collaborators.
If Kayode had killed Anini, the witness and material evidence the government needed to prosecute DSP George Iyamu would have been lost and you know what that portends.
This, sadly, is what happened with the alleged execution of Gentle the Yahoo, so as to not allow the successful prosecution of his collaborators both in and out of government.
The attached photo was Lawrence Anini being wheeled into the court during the trial of DSP George Iyamu.
It was DSP George Iyamu who used his police connection and position to provide weapons, information on escape routes and police cover for the armed robbers who terrorized the state for several months.
Anini’s evidence in court led to the prosecution and eventual execution of DSP George Iyamu by the IBB government in 1987.
The news that Gentle the Yahoo, a terrorist who operated for several years in Imo State was eliminated silently is very suspicious especially when he repeatedly mentioned names of government officials whom he claimed were his recruiters and collaborators.
To silently eliminate Gentle the Yahoo without constituting a board of inquiry to give way for holistic investigation and possibly bring his collaborators to justice is not justice but criminal conspiracy to evade justice for some privileged individuals who may be responsible for the avoidable loss of lives in the state for political reasons.
It is very sad that certain individuals who funded and supported Kabiru Sokoto in his murderous and criminal activities from Borno to Abuja are still in government today as policy makers and it appears that the same experience played out with the hasty killing of Gentle the Yahoo as cover up for certain government officials and individuals in the state.
It is not possible for Gentle the Yahoo and his groups to act alone for such period of time in a forest in Imo State while the state government act as if they didn’t exist until citizens started mounting pressures on the utter hypocrisy of the security situation in the state.
This is not how to fight terror.
Fight against terror must be thorough, total and sweeping but it appears that some privileged collaborators are deemed to be untouchable at the moment.
How could security officers destroy the number 1 exhibit that could lead to further revelations and secrets behind his operation?
Why the so much haste in killing him, thus putting to an end so many questions he needed to answer alive?
Something does not smell right with the approach.
