Breaking! About 550 travelers intercepted, returned over terrorism suspicion 

… vehicles registration numbers exposed 

About five hundred and fifty travelers of youthful ages dominantly youngmen, traveling on large trailers, have reportedly been intercepted at Numan Bridge in Adamawa state.

According to an unsigned statement circulating in the media, about fifty percent (50%) of the occupants of the two trailers were confirmed to have come from Maradi in Niger Republic, while others came from Yobe and Katsina states.

“It has been confirmed that the two trailers with registration numbers NNY 236 XA (Yobe) and GAS 330 XA (Taraba), earlier intercepted at the Numan Bridge, were carrying about 550 travelers”, the statement claimed.

The statement further claimed that upon interrogation, it was gathered that the motives of the passengers aboard the intercepted vehicle as well as their final destination could not be ascertained, thereby raising security concerns.

“Eyewitnesses reported that after profiling, about 50% of the travelers were from Maradi in Nigér Republic, while others were from Yobe and Katsina States. The passengers could not give any clear reason for their mass movement, raising security concerns.

A joint team of Immigration, Police, and Military later escorted the group back to the Adamawa-Gombe boundary with instructions to return to where they are coming from pending further clarification.

President Bola Tinubu-led federal government has come under serious criticism following escalating kidnappings and killing mostly within the Muslim-dominated northern Nigeria with majority of victims being christians, school children and other soft targets.
