…as General Superintendent orders strict compliance
The General Council of the Assemblies of God Nigeria has introduced a strict policy barring its pastors from marrying women who are not members of the denomination.
If the new order stands, single Pastors of the church wishing to get married henceforth, would have to tour round the country until they find a wife of their choice, provided, from any of the denominations of the Assemblies of God Nigeria.
The directive was issued by the General Superintendent, Rev. Dr. Abel Ukachi Amadi during the 2026 National Leaders’ Retreat at Evangel Camp, Okpoto, Ebonyi State.
Speaking to the church leaders, Rev. Dr. Amadi directed district presbyteries to rigorously enforce the rule, stating that no pastor would receive approval to marry outside the Assemblies of God.
“No pastor should be allowed to marry outside the Assemblies of God. Presbyteries, you must take note of this and ensure it is not allowed,” he declared.
He encouraged pastors searching for spouses to seek partners within the church nationwide, rather than looking beyond the denomination.
“If you have gone to Rivers State, go to Umuahia. If you don’t find one in Umuahia, go to Enugu. If you don’t find one in Enugu, go to Lagos. As you continue, God will provide you with a woman who will support you in ministry,” he advised.
