An American real estate expert; Mr. Mike Arnold has called out one of Nigeria’s social media influencers and Ambassador-designate; Mr. Reno Omokri, for according to him, abandoning the advocacy for the release of Miss Leah Sharibu, eight years after her abduction.

Miss Leah Sharibu, a Christian school girl was abducted along with others in 2018 while in school in Yobe state by Boko Haram terrorists.

Following the abduction, different groups and activists including Reno Omokri mounted pressure calling for her release.

Eight years after, Omokri who had been very vocal in his call for Leah’s release has reportedly become silent about the issue.

Commenting on Reno’s alleged silence, Mike accused him of abandoning the cause due to “pursuit of money and favor”.

“Today, sadly, marks the eighth anniversary of Leah‘s abduction. Let us never stop advocating for her freedom and justice”, Mike noted in a statement, describing Reno Omokri as an embodiment of every negative stereotype about Nigerians.

Mike continued: “Let the record show that the former champion of this cause, Reno Omokri, has made no mention of this horrible milestone. He sold her out along with his own soul to curry favor with the current president.

He has publicly and unequivocally abandoned his own father, children, truth, faith and human decency — calling the widespread, ongoing, well documented slaughter of Christians a “hoax”— in pursuit of money and favor.

He is the living embodiment of every negative stereotype the world has about Nigerian scammers. In that light, he is the perfect shambassador to represent the Tinubu administration”.

Leah Sharibu was just 14 years old when Boko Haram stormed her school in Dapchi, Yobe State, on 19 February 2018 and took her along with more than a hundred other girls.

While most of the students were later released, Leah was kept in captivity because she refused to renounce her Christian faith. Eight years later, she’s still being held, and reports from former captives say she has been forced into marriage and has given birth multiple times while in the militants’ hands.

Her family and a range of local and international groups—including the LEAH Foundation, Open Doors, and the US Commission on International Religious Freedom—continue to press the Nigerian government for decisive action to secure her release. They’ve organized global prayer sessions and petitions, urging President Bola Tinubu’s administration to intensify rescue efforts and address the broader security lapses that allow such abductions to persist.

As at the time of this report, Reno Omokri has yet to respond to the allegations by Mike Arnold.

The Ambassador-designate hasn’t also released any fresh statement for the 8th‑year anniversary of Leah Sharibu’s abduction.

The latest public comments from him date back to 2021, when he marked three years of her captivity with a video and a series of posts urging world leaders and Nigerians to keep pressure on the government for her release.

Since then, his social‑media channels have been silent on the anniversary, and no new quote or interview has been reported on the Leah Sharibu’s abduction issue.
