2027 aspirant for Uyo/Uruan/Nsit Atai/Ibesikpo Asutan Federal Constituency, Mr Ikakke Bassey has returned to the Labour Party (LP), according to him, to ensure the actualization of his dreams for his people.
The Ibesikpo Asutan-born development expert who confirmed this in a telephone chat with our correspondent after being spotted at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, Abia state, venue for the LP national convention held today, said he didn’t resign from the party.
Recall that Ikakke who was the spokesperson for the Labour Party 2023 Governorship Campaign Council, had penultimate week, resigned from the African Democratic Congress, ADC, citing irreconcilable crisis at both the national and Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the party.
“Yes. It is true that I have formally returned to my dear party, the Labour Party”, Ikakke declared.
Speaking further, he said: “As a matter of fact, I did not resign from the Labour Party. What actually happened was that as one of the leaders of the Labour Party in Akwa Ibom State, I joined others from other political parties who wanted to formulate a common front for all opposition political parties, using the ADC as a platform.
“But, unfortunately”, Ikakke continued “some elements sabotaged our efforts due to their political shenanigans. Because of that, many persons who came from different political blocs returned to their different parties, likewise my humble self.
As I had noted in my official communication, my plans for the people of Uyo federal constituency are too enormous to be allowed to be truncated due to crisis in the ADC or any other political party. Our people must be liberated, come 2027.
Therefore, I have returned to my party. The Labour Party is a very strong and reliable party, devoid of any legal encumbrances. The party is even going to be more stronger after the peaceful and successful Ward, Chapter and State congresses which culminated to the national convention held today in Abia state”.
