Breaking! APC dumps Desmond Elliott ahead of 2027 polls
This morning’s political signals from Lagos once again revealed how quickly alliances can swing when schemes begin ahead of 2027.
Speaking during a constituency meeting in Surulere, Lagos, Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, disclosed how the crisis that erupted in the Lagos State legislature following moves to impeach Speaker Mudashiru Obasa almost affected his standing within the Presidency because of allegations linking Surulere lawmaker and Nollywood actor Desmond Elliott to the crisis.
According to Gbajabiamila, “President Tinubu called me to his study in Abuja and asked me if Desmond Elliott was my boy. I told him Desmond is my boy.”
He further stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu informed him that intelligence reports suggested Desmond Elliott, who represents Surulere Constituency 1 in the Lagos State legislature, was among those involved in the crisis surrounding the attempted removal of Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.
Gbajabiamila said he immediately defended the lawmaker and later contacted him directly.
“I called Desmond and asked him to leave the group if he was part of them,” Gbajabiamila revealed.
The Chief of Staff also claimed that the situation escalated when security concerns began pointing in his direction.
“Three days later, the DSS DG called me and said my name was being mentioned that I was behind the impeachment saga because I was supporting Desmond,” he said.
The development has again highlighted the enormous interest President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reportedly showed in the Lagos legislature crisis, especially his strong support for Speaker Mudashiru Obasa during the tense confrontation.
Gbajabiamila’s remarks also suggest that he may no longer support Desmond Elliott’s reported fourth term ambition in Surulere Constituency 1 after advising him to publicly distance himself from the group linked to the crisis, a step he claimed the lawmaker failed to take.
