…Gov Fubara’s brother joins race
The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), headed by the party’s National Chairman, on Wednesday evening adopted Hon. Kingsley Ogundu Chinda as the consensus governorship candidate of the party for the 2027 gubernatorial election in Rivers State.
Chinda, who hails from Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, emerged after Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former APC governorship candidate Tonye Cole stepped down from the race.
The former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives is expected to fly the party’s flag in what is already shaping into a major political contest ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Rivers State.
“After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my family, friends, and associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC governorship primaries. I do so with a full heart and with a firm commitment to support whoever emerges as the candidate of our great party”.
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara had stated in a statement withdrawing from APC governorship primary, while vowing to support whoever emerges as gubernatorial candidate of the party.
Meanwhile, in what has been described as a ‘fresh drama’, in Rivers State politics, Mr. Blessing Fubara Snr., the elder brother of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has officially picked up the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) nomination form to contest the upcoming governorship election in Rivers State. His move has already generated political reactions and growing attention within the state’s political space.
According to reports, his entry into the race marks a new twist in Rivers politics, especially as it comes from within the governor’s immediate family.
