ADC concludes statewide primaries, unveils Eyakekpono for 2027 Guber race

 

 

The African Democratic Congress ((ADC) in Akwa Ibom State has successfully concluded its primary elections across all levels, paving the way for the party’s preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

 

The exercise covered candidates for the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and Governorship positions, with party members describing the process as peaceful, organized and reflective of internal unity.

 

At the end of the exercise held at the party secretariat 84 Udotong Ubo Street, Uyo, delegates under a consensus arrangement overwhelmingly adopted Mr. Eyakekpono Obo as the party’s governorship flag bearer for the 2027 election.

 

The emergence of Obo was greeted with excitement among party faithful who saw the development as a major step in consolidating the party’s strength and presenting a united front for the next electoral contest.

 

Speaking after the exercise, the State Chairman of the party, Hon. Dick Duke, commended delegates for the maturity and discipline displayed throughout the process.

 

He appreciated members for ensuring a smooth exercise and also welcomed officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) who monitored the proceedings.

 

Duke expressed confidence in the future of the party, insisting that the leadership under his watch remains duly recognized by both INEC and the national body of the ADC

 

Earlier, the Chairman of the Election Committee, Mr. Boniface Etim, explained that the conduct of the primaries was in strict compliance with the Electoral Act 2026.

 

According to him, the law empowers political parties to conduct congresses at ward, chapter and state levels, as well as primaries for various elective offices.

Etim who is also Chairman of Uruan Chapter and Chairman of Chairmen of the party in the state stated that in line with those provisions and directives, the party unanimously adopted Mr. Obo through a consensus process to fly its governorship flag in 2027.

 

In his acceptance speech, Eyakekpono Obo expressed gratitude to members and delegates for the confidence reposed in him.

 

He assured supporters that their trust would not be misplaced, promising to justify the mandate given to him.

 

“I won’t fail you, everybody will smile when I become the next Governor of the state. I don’t talk much; I am a man of action,” he said, drawing loud cheers from party members who see his emergence as the beginning of a new political journey for the ADC in Akwa Ibom State.
