FUTA appoints Prof Peter Ayodeji as Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies

 

 

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Professor Adenike Temidayo Oladiji, has approved the appointment of Professor Sesan Peter Ayodeji, FNSE, as the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS) for a period of two years effective from August 1.2026. The appointment is sequel to his election by his peers.

Professor Ayodeji, a distinguished Professor of Industrial and Production Engineering, assumes the leadership of the School with an impressive record of academic excellence, research innovation, administrative experience and professional accomplishments spanning over two decades.

 

A graduate of FUTA, Professor Ayodeji obtained his Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.), Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in Mechanical and Production Engineering from the University before rising steadily through the academic ranks from Graduate Assistant in 2000 to Professor in 2019.

Widely respected for his commitment to academic excellence and institutional development, Professor Ayodeji has served the University in several capacities. Notably, he was Sub-Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, where he contributed significantly to the strengthening of postgraduate administration and the enhancement of academic processes. His dedication and invaluable contributions earned him a formal commendation for the positive transformation witnessed in the School during his tenure.

 

Outside FUTA, Professor Ayodeji served as Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology, Achievers University, Owo, between 2021 and 2024. His tenure was marked by remarkable leadership, academic growth and institutional advancement, for which he received commendation from the University’s management.

A Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE) and a registered engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Professor Ayodeji has made significant contributions to research in manufacturing systems, automation, industrial engineering, ergonomics, production systems and engineering design. His scholarly output includes numerous peer-reviewed publications, patented inventions, research grants and innovative technologies that have earned national and international recognition.

His research excellence has been recognised through several prestigious honours, including the 2025 FUTA Best Inventor of the Year Excellence and Productivity Award, the 2022 Nigeria Prize for Science jointly awarded by Nigeria LNG Limited, as well as several TETFund and institutional research grants that have advanced engineering research and technological innovation.

 

An accomplished postgraduate mentor, Professor Ayodeji has supervised and graduated numerous Postgraduate Diploma, Master’s and Doctoral students while serving as external examiner and assessor to several universities within Nigeria and abroad. His contributions to postgraduate education have strengthened research capacity and human capital development across the engineering profession.

 

As Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Ayodeji will provide strategic leadership for postgraduate academic programmes, research development, quality assurance, innovation and collaborations aimed at sustaining FUTA’s reputation as Nigeria’s foremost University of Technology.

 

Professor Ayodeji brings to the position a rich blend of academic, research and administrative experience, as well as a proven record of visionary leadership and institutional service. His appointment is expected to further strengthen postgraduate education, deepen research excellence, promote innovation and strategic collaborations, and enhance the global visibility and competitiveness of the School of Postgraduate Studies.
