ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan, popularly known as “Yayi,” on his birthday, describing him as a dedicated public servant and a dependable political ally whose legislative career has spanned two of Nigeria’s most populous states.
In a statement released on Monday, August 10, 2026, by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu commended Senator Olamilekan for his years of service to the people of Ogun and Lagos States, and to Nigeria as a whole.
Senator Olamilekan currently represents Ogun West in the 10th Senate. He also serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations and Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Communication — two key positions that place him at the center of the federal government’s budget process and policy communication.
The President noted the lawmaker’s rare political trajectory. Olamilekan began his legislative journey in 2011 as a member of the House of Representatives for Alimosho Constituency in Lagos. He later served as Senator for Lagos West before moving to represent Ogun West, giving him the unique distinction of having represented two different senatorial districts at the National Assembly.
“Senator Yayi, you are a dedicated public servant and a dependable political ally. Your commitment to Nigeria’s democratic development is worthy of commendation,” President Tinubu said.
The President specifically acknowledged Senator Olamilekan’s contributions to national budget management, crediting his leadership in the Appropriations Committee with helping to advance the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He said the senator’s work has been crucial in aligning legislative priorities with executive programs aimed at improving infrastructure, social services, and economic stability.
President Bola Tinubu also praised Olamilekan’s democratic credentials and his role in fostering a constructive partnership between the Legislature and the Executive.
According to the President, the senator has remained consistent in promoting policies and legislation that improve the lives of Nigerians and foster national development.
The birthday message further highlighted Olamilekan’s growing political influence in Ogun State.
“Your overwhelming nomination as the APC flagbearer for the Ogun State governorship is a testament to your good works and achievements,” the President stressed.
The nomination positions Senator Olamilekan as the All Progressives Congress candidate for the next governorship election in Ogun, a development that has been described by many as a reflection of his grassroots appeal and legislative record.
“I wish you more years of good health, wisdom and strength as you continue to serve your people and our dear country, Nigeria,” the President concluded.
Senator Olamilekan’s birthday comes at a time when the National Assembly is preparing for key deliberations on the 2027 budget framework, a process the Appropriations Committee is expected to lead.
