ABUJA — The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Olatunji Disu has mourned the tragic loss of 25 lives in the Nigerian Air Force aircraft accident which occurred on 5th October 2026 in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State.
In a condolence message issued on Tuesday, the IGP, on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force, extended deep condolences to the Chief of the Air Staff, officers and men of the Nigerian Air Force, and the families of those who lost their lives in the incident.
The IGP described the incident involving NAF 931 as a national tragedy, noting that the officers who died paid the supreme price in service to the nation.
“Today, we mourn with the Nigerian Air Force over the tragic loss of 25 lives in the NAF 931 aircraft accident, which occurred on 5 October 2026 in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State,” the IGP said.
“On behalf of the Nigeria Police Force, I extend my deepest condolences to the Chief of the Air Staff, the officers and men of the Nigerian Air Force, and the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic incident,” he stated.
The Police Chief said the Nigeria Police Force stands in solidarity with the Nigerian Air Force at this difficult time, adding that the courage, service and sacrifice of the deceased will never be forgotten.
“Their courage, service and sacrifice will not be forgotten. At this difficult time, the Nigeria Police Force stands in solidarity with the Nigerian Air Force and the bereaved families,” the statement read.
He prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed and for strength for their families and colleagues to bear the painful loss.
“May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace, and may God grant their families and colleagues the strength to bear this painful loss,” the IGP added.
The NAF 931 aircraft reportedly crashed in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State on Sunday, killing all 25 persons on board. The cause of the crash is yet to be officially disclosed by the Air Force, but rescue and recovery operations were said to have been concluded.
The crash has thrown the military community into mourning, with several security agencies and government officials sending condolence messages to the Nigerian Air Force.
The Nigeria Police Force said it shares in the grief of the Air Force, describing the inter-agency bond between the Police and the military as one built on mutual respect and shared sacrifice for national security.
The IGP assured that the Police will continue to support the Nigerian Air Force in honour of the fallen heroes.
