Akwa Ibom @38: There’ll soon be reasons for celebrations – Uduak

By our Correspondent

As Akwa Ibom State turns thirty eight (38) years old today since creation, a prominent indigene of the state, Obong (Dr) Uduakobong Udoh has decried the state of affairs of the oil-rich state, saying there’s nothing much to celebrate.

In a goodwill message in commemoration of the event, Dr. Udoh who is the opposition coalition leader in Akwa Ibom State, while acknowledging the efforts of former State governor, Obong Victor Attah, however assured indigenes of better reasons to celebrate, soon.

“As our dear state turns 38 years since creation today, I join millions of fellow indigenes to thank God for sustaining us in spite of leadership deficits”, part of the message reads.

Continuing, Obong Uduakobong Udoh who was the 2023 governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) noted that with the right leadership come 2027, Akwa Ibom people will have genuine reasons to celebrate their statehood.

“Nevertheless, I won’t fail to acknowledge the efforts of our former governor, His Excellency, Obong Victor Attah, whose tenure witnessed massive infrastructural and human capital developments.

It was during Obong Attah’s administration that many indigenous contractors sprung up and had opportunities of handling state-sponsored projects. But today, all those indigenous firms have folded up, while most of their owners lost their lives due lack of government’s patronage.

“However, all hope is not lost. We’re seriously building a formidable opposition coalition that would bring back good old days, usher in a people-oriented government so that from 2027, our people will be liberated and everyone will have reasons to celebrate”.

Akwa Ibom State was created on 23rd September, 1987 by the then military government of General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida.
