Government of Akwa Ibom State has announced a temporary closure of some portions on the Calabar-Itu-Ikot Ekpene Road by the Federal Ministry of Works for a period of two weeks due to ongoing dualization and construction works on the affected portions.

In a public notice signed by the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Aniekan Umanah, the State Government hinted that the closure shall take effect from Thursday.

“The Akwa Ibom State Government wishes to inform the general public that portions of the Calabar–Itu–Ikot Ekpene Road, spanning Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, will be temporarily closed by the Federal Ministry of Works for a period of two (2) weeks, effective Thursday, January 15, 2026.

This closure is necessitated by ongoing dualisation and construction works being carried out under authorization code C/NO 6669”.

Announcing the alternative routes, the government in the public notice regretted the inconveniences which the temporary closure would cause the roads users and appreciated everyone for their understanding and cooperation.

“In view of this development, an alternative route — Ekim Itam–Uyo–Ikot Ekpene Road — has been opened for public use throughout the two-week period, commencing Friday, January 16, 2026.

“The Government regrets any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause to motorists and other road users, and assures the public that the project is being undertaken for the overall benefit of the people upon completion.

The cooperation of all transporters, road users, and the general public is highly appreciated”.
