Breaking! Akwa Ibom: Ex-speaker Onofiok Luke declares stance

…debunks social media reports

By Ime Silas

Following the recent defection from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, by the governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, a former speaker of the State’s House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke has come up to refute some insinuations being circulated in the social media.

It would be recalled that Gov. Umo Eno last Friday defected to the APC, citing a protracted political crisis rocking his former ruling party.

Reacting to a trend of reports circulating in the social media space which advanced different political permutations, Onofiok Luke who also hails from Nsit Ubium LGA as the governor said it was a handy work of mischief makers aimed at destroying the cordial relationship he enjoys with the governor.

“My attention has been drawn to some political materials circulating on the internet with my pictures on it and I wish to state that I have no knowledge of them neither have I authorized anyone or group of persons to do so on my behalf”, Onofiok said in a message he signed off as ‘Private Citizen’ and released via his social media handles.

The immediate-past National Assembly member who represented Etinan/Nsit Ibom/Nsit Ubium federal constituency, while urging the general public to discard the rumours, also pledged his support to the ARISE Agenda of his brother Governor, Umo Eno.

“May I state that it is the handy work of mischief makers who in the last few days have tried to force words from me and I will not grant them such satisfaction. The publication and circulation is also done with the intention of straining the cordial relationship I enjoy with my brother, kinsman and Governor HE Pastor Umo Eno Ph.D, whom I have pledged to support to realize his Arise Agenda for the benefit of Akwa Ibom people, on a bipartisan note not minding our political affiliations.

I wish the general public to note accordingly”.
