…opens up on next move
It is no longer news that the governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, Ph.D has concluded arrangements to defect from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
What appears to be the latest news in the ‘grand movement’ in the state is the declaration by the Deputy Governor, Her Excellency, Sen Akon Eyakenyi that she would be deflecting along with her boss, the governor.
This disclosure, according to media reports, was made by the state’s deputy governor while interacting with her Oron kinsmen on the impending defection.
According to Her Excellency: “I’m sure you are all aware the Governor is making a serious political move, which is occasioned by the intractable crises bedeviling the PDP.
“At the State level, the PDP doesn’t have any problem and would win any election. But the issue is beyond that. At the national level, the PDP isn’t doing well and there’s no indication the problems will be solved anytime soon.
“Although the Governor has already directly or indirectly communicated with most of you on the decision, I felt it was also necessary for you to hear from me that I will be moving with the Governor wherever his next destination is.”
Both Their Excellencies, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno and Sen Akon Eyakenyi were elected on the platform of the PDP and sworn in on May 29, 2023.
As explained by the Deputy Governor, the Governor’s resolve to quit the PDP was borne out of the perennial crisis rocking the once ruling party in Nigeria.
