A twelve-years old boy named Ufokobong Edwin Godwin has died of alleged bullying by his schoolmate, a senior student at the Federal Government College, Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.

According to a report on the social media credited to Oga Yenne, the boy died on Sunday, reportedly from complications linked to an alleged bullying that occured at school.

“The family of Mr. Edwin Godwin, who just lost their 12-year-old son (UfokObong Edwin Godwin) in the early hours of Sunday (Easter Sunday), is calling on the public to hear their story and help them seek justice for their son, who has already been buried”, the report read.

Giving insight on the incident, the poster continued “It has been alleged that a fellow student (a senior student in SS3) asked the boy for provisions, but he refused. The student reportedly hit him on the neck, after which he went into a coma”.

The report revealed that the parents of the deceased boy was not informed by the school authorities of the bullying incident even though the boy was later resuscitated from a coma.

“The boy was taken to the hospital by the school authorities, but the parents were not informed.

He later regained consciousness and was taken back to school. When the holiday came, the parents picked him up without being informed of any incident involving their son. (Perhaps the school did not think the injury was that serious.)

What is still unclear is whether the school eventually informed the parents about the severity of the situation”.
