Comfort, Kwam 1: Senate moves to probe Airlines, passengers’ faceoffs

The Senate Committee on Aviation has vowed to wade into the recent incidents involving airline operators in Nigeria and their passengers, which have elicited widespread reactions from Nigerians.

Last week, iconic fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, was involved in unruly behaviour when he stood in front of an aircraft, obstructing it from taking off at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The brief statement read in part, “In the exercise of its constitutional powers, the committee will be engaging key regulatory bodies, operators, security agencies, and public interest groups to establish the facts, review existing procedures, and ensure that any necessary corrective measures are swiftly implemented.

“We will not allow procedural gaps or lapses in enforcement to undermine safety, professionalism, or public trust in our aviation system. The Senate Committee on Aviation will ensure accountability at all levels.”

The committee assured Nigerians of its commitment to professionalism and vowed to do everything possible to prevent a future reccurrence.

Comfort Emmanson, a passenger on the Ibom Air Uyo–Lagos flight, was on Sunday forcefully taken out of the plane after she reportedly refused to switch off her phone.

She was also seen on video slapping a female air hostess who insisted on compliance with aviation safety rules.
