Fake LP ‘Former’ Chairman: How Obidients deceived Obi in Uyo

…Labour Party remains intact in Akwa Ibom – State Exco

By Ekanem Iniko

The leadership of the Labour Party (LP) in Akwa Ibom State has described as false and fraudulent what it calls “recent show of shame”, by imposters parading as the ‘Labour Party structure’ in the state.

It would be recalled that the Akwa Ibom State chapter of Obidient Movement had held an event to receive Mr Peter Obi in the state during which some persons claimed to have collapsed the structure of the LP into the African Democratic Congress (ADC)

Reacting via a press release signed by its Interim State Publicity Secretary, Ime Silas, the Labour Party called on the teeming members of the party and the general public to discard such claims, maintaining that the structure of the Labour Party in Akwa Ibom State remained intact.

“We are compelled to issue this statement in reaction to a show of shame perpetrated on Saturday, 14th February, 2026, at the Vinpy Hotel, Uyo, by a certain group of renegades led by an imposter, Akan Isong.

The use of sixteen (16) individuals with himself as seventeenth (17th) as the State Executives and thirty-one (31) Local Government Chapter structures of the Labour Party in Akwa Ibom State is not only laughable, but also the cheapest fraud that only kindergarten politicians could fall for.

The public would recall that upon getting wind of this sinister plan in the early hours of Saturday, we had issued a disclaimer, distancing our great party from any purported coalition with the ADC or Obidient Movement”, parts of the statement read.

Clarifying that the said Akan Isong was at no time its State Chairman, the Labour Party, continued “What transpired during the said event was the latest in the list of fraudulent activities of some fake and disgruntled elements who go about looking for who to defraud as the 2027 elections draw close.

We wish to state clearly without any iota of equivocation that the said Akan Isong was at no time the State Chairman of the Labour Party in Akwa Ibom State in whatever form. We challenge him to provide such proof even as we have alerted security agents to be on the watch against criminally-minded elements and impersonators wishing to use the name of our great party for sinister intentions.

It is pertinent at this juncture to emphasize that the Interim State Executive Committee of the Labour Party (LP) in Akwa Ibom State duly recognized by the Distinguished Sen. Nenadi Usman-led Interim National Executive, is led by Obong Nkan Akpabio.

“However, Akan Isong and his co-travelers may have succeeded in deceiving their latest prey, but we wish to state categorically clear that the Labour Party in Akwa Ibom State is waxing stronger than ever, and is repositioned to partner with any serious and genuine political bloc wishing to provide for Akwa Ibom people and Nigerians the much-desired people-centric governments at all levels”.
