Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, PhD, on Tuesday, visited the family of his Personal Assistant on Media, Dr. Thomas Thomas at Oboetim Ikot Ekong, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, over the demise of his father, Late Elder Effiong Thomas Udom.
The governor who was represented during the condolence visit by his Special Adviser on Humanitarian Services, Prince Umoh Ekpo, while sympathizing with the bereaved family, also assured them of his support during the trying period.
“His Excellency, the Governor would have loved to be here in person. He actually fixed this visit for today before he got involved in a very important official engagement outside the country”, the Governor’s representative noted.
He continued: “His Excellency’s call this morning to remind me of this visit, is another testament of his compassionate nature. He has asked me to assure your family of his love, prayers and support in this period of grief.
It is His Excellency’s prayers that God continue to comfort you all, while granting the soul of your departed father, a perfect rest”.
Speaking, the eldest son of the deceased, Dr Thomas Thomas, thanked the governor for the show of love as once again demonstrated in the visit.
He said: “On behalf of my family, I wish to sincerely thank Your Excellency, my boss, for this visit. This visit means a lot to us.
You have shown us again that you are indeed a caring father. We sincerely appreciate you, Sir. We pray God to bless you and keep you for the services of our dear state in particular, and humanity in general”.
Present during the visit was the widow, Mrs. Patience Effiong Thomas, children and well wishers.
The funeral of Late Elder Effiong Thomas Udom is slated to hold on Friday, 20th February, 2026, at the deceased compound, Otung Otong, Oboetim Ikot Ekong in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area.
