The first completed flyover bridge on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is officially ready and in use, a development pundits referred to as a major milestone for Nigeria’s coastal mega project.
According to media reports, the finished structure in Lagos, now easing traffic flow and improving connectivity along this strategic route. The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is designed to transform transportation, reduce travel time, and unlock economic growth across coastal states.
From construction phase to completion, this flyover represents real progress in modern infrastructure development in Nigeria.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is a massive infrastructure project aimed at connecting the western and south-eastern regions of Nigeria. This 700-kilometer highway will stretch from Victoria Island, Lagos to Calabar, Cross River State, passing through nine states, including Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom.
The project is being executed in phases, with the first phase covering 47.47 kilometers from Lagos. Construction began in March 2024, and as of March 2026, a 30-kilometer stretch has been opened to traffic. The highway is expected to be completed in eight years and will cost approximately N7.5 billion per kilometer.
The project is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to boost economic growth, create jobs, and improve regional integration. The highway will also enhance tourism potential, shoreline protection, and economic prosperity in the coastal regions.
