ILORIN — The Kwara State Government has debunked a viral statement claiming Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has endorsed Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki as his preferred successor for the 2027 governorship election, describing it as “false” and “desperate propaganda.”
In a press statement dated 19th May, 2026, which he personally signed, the Governor said the alleged endorsement was fabricated by “mischief-makers and desperate political elements” seeking to cause confusion within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and among Kwarans.
“We wish to state categorically, unequivocally, and without any ambiguity that the purported statement is FALSE, MISLEADING, and the handiwork of mischief-makers,” the statement read.
It clarified that Governor AbdulRazaq “at no time did… issue such a statement or grant approval for anyone to speak on his behalf regarding the endorsement of any aspirant.” The governor, it added, remains committed to “due democratic process, internal party democracy, fairness, inclusiveness, and equal opportunity for every qualified aspirant within the APC.”
The government condemned the circulation of the fake statement, saying it was a “futile attempt to manipulate public opinion, sow discord among party faithful, and distract the administration from its unwavering commitment to governance and service delivery.”
According to the statement, the governor believes the APC in Kwara is “blessed with numerous competent, experienced, and capable individuals” who can serve at various levels.
“Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has not anointed, endorsed, or imposed any individual as a successor, and he has no intention of undermining the transparent processes and structures of the party,” it said.
The governor urged the public and media to disregard the statement and rely only on “official communication channels of the Kwara State Government and verified statements from the Governor’s Office.” He also called on party members to avoid actions that could cause division, stressing that “the task before us remains the continued development of Kwara State, consolidation of the achievements recorded under this administration, and the preservation of peace and stability.”
“Kwara people are politically sophisticated and discerning enough to reject cheap propaganda, falsehood, and manipulation disguised as political communication,” the statement concluded.
