Mass defection hits Zamfara PDP, as By-election candidate joins APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State has suffered yet another major setback as Muhammad Kurya, its candidate in the August 2025 Kaura Namoda South State Assembly by-election, has officially announced his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a detailed statement issued to journalists in Gusau, Kurya explained that his decision was the result of deep frustration with the failed leadership, disunity, and deceitful practices that have crippled the PDP under Governor Dauda Lawal Dare. He accused the governor of turning the once vibrant political platform into a personal enterprise built on arrogance, selfishness, and betrayal of trust.

Kuryar lamented that despite the hopes and sacrifices of genuine party loyalists, Governor Dauda has sidelined core members, abandoned his campaign promises, and allowed insecurity to worsen under his administration. According to him, the PDP in Zamfara has lost its sense of purpose and direction, leaving many stakeholders disillusioned and voiceless.

“The PDP in Zamfara today is no longer a party of the people. It is a one-man show driven by greed and ego. Governor Dauda Lawal has politicized the insecurity devastating our state, refused to engage stakeholders, and completely ignored the suffering of the masses. I cannot continue to associate myself with a system that has lost credibility and compassion,” Kurya declared.

The former PDP candidate expressed deep admiration for the visionary leadership of Hon. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, Minister of State for Defence, and Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, both of whom he described as true patriots and defenders of Zamfara’s collective interest.

“Matawalle and Yari represent hope, stability, and development. Their dedication to security, unity, and the empowerment of citizens has continued to inspire many of us. Joining the APC under their guidance is a step toward rebuilding our state and restoring the people’s confidence in governance,” he added.

Kuryar madaro reaffirmed his total loyalty to the APC and pledged to contribute actively toward strengthening the party ahead of future elections. He emphasized that his decision reflects the growing realization among Zamfara citizens that only the APC possesses the leadership discipline and commitment needed to steer the state toward peace, prosperity, and accountability.
