State Assembly okays Gov Eno’s move to employ 3,000 civil servants 

 

 

 

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has granted the state government approval to employ 3,000 new staff into the state civil service .

Of the 3,000 staff for employment, 1,000 are for the educational sector, 1,000 will be engaged as health workers, while the remaining 1,000 are for the mainstream civil service.

The Assembly, which granted approval following report presentation by Education Committee’s Chairman who also doubles as the member for Oron/ Idung Uko State Constituency, Hon. (Mrs) Kenim Onofiok, adopted through a motion by Rt. Hon. Asuquo Udo of IKono state Constituency and seconded by his Mkat Enin counterpart, Hon. Uwem Imo-Ita during Tuesday’s plenary.

Hon.Onofiok, noted that her Committee, having been mandated to legislate on the motion of “urgent need for immediate deployment of teachers to public Secondary Schools”, held a meeting with the Head of Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien on June 30th, 2025, where her members were briefed on the employ of 3,000 staff by the state government.

Her words: ” The Head of Civil Service took time to brief the Committee on the plans of the State Government, with regards to the employment of 3,000 staff that was announced by the Governor”.

The Education Committee, she said, recommended for the employment of core subject teachers by the state government and deploy same, especially to the rural areas of the state.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. ( Elder ) Udeme Otong, therefore, directed the Clerk, Mrs NsikakAbasi Orok, to communicate the resolution of the Assembly to the appropriate quarters for implementation in the interest of the government and the people.

Meanwhile, the House has adjourned plenary to reconvene on Tuesday, 5th August 2025 at 10 a.m.
