Troops foil coordinated terrorist attacks in Adamawa, Borno, neutralise scores

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have successfully repelled coordinated terrorist attacks across parts of Adamawa and Borno States, neutralising several terrorists during follow-up operations.

According to a statement by the Acting Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant S. A. Atokolo, terrorists in the early hours of January 16, 2026, attempted to overrun a patrol base at Sabon Gari in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State. Alert troops swiftly engaged the attackers, with reinforcements from Gulak and the Battalion Quick Reaction Force, forcing the terrorists to retreat without any casualty to troops or loss of equipment.

On the same day, terrorists launched a coordinated, multi-directional attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Azir in Borno State. The assailants were met with overwhelming firepower from ground troops, supported by the Air Component and other Nigerian Army aerial platforms. After an intense firefight lasting over an hour, the attackers were overpowered and compelled to withdraw.

Troops recovered several weapons and ammunition from the fleeing terrorists, including a 60mm mortar tube and bombs, locally fabricated explosives, heavy machine-gun rounds, and large quantities of 7.62mm NATO ammunition. Precision air strikes by the Nigerian Air Force further resulted in the neutralisation of additional scores of terrorists.

Operation HADIN KAI continues to sustain pressure on terrorist elements across the North-East.
