Miss Faith Asukwo, a beautiful Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic student from Okobo Local Government Area, of Akwa Ibom State has been laid to rest.
Faith Asukwo lost her life in a tragic accident along the Aba-Ikot Ekpene road while on her way to school. Faith’s death has once again triggered concerns about the safety of the students of the state-owned Polytechnic as other students had in the past, lost their lives in similar road crash.
Until her demise, she was a Higher National Diploma One (HND I) student of the Department of Biological Sciences.

The Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Elder Aniefiok Nkom, accompanied by the Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Rt. Hon. Nsikak Ekong, supervised the August monthly environmental sanitation exercise across the Local Government Area. This was confirmed today via a statement from the Media Unit of the Chairman’s office.
The exercise was conducted under full movement restrictions, allowing the Chairman to assess compliance levels in various communities.
As part of efforts to enhance road safety in high-risk areas, Elder Nkom installed speed breakers along the busy Aba Road, particularly near Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua. This action responds to frequent complaints from residents about accidents in the area, which have resulted in loss of lives.
“We will install over 15 speed breakers on Aba Road from the bridge towards the town, with more to follow,” the Chairman announced.
He also called on officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to intensify public awareness campaigns, urging drivers to practice safe driving.
Elder Nkom was joined during the inspection by the Councillor representing AKISIEC Ward 8, Hon. Nsini Umoh, and the Councillor for Ward 2, Hon. Godwin Nwayen.
