Why we must go after ex-militant leader, Tompolo, EFCC declare

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced that former militant leader Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, will be investigated for alleged naira abuse during his 54th birthday celebration.

A viral video shows Tompolo stepping on ₦1,000 notes while guests sprayed cash at his feet, sparking public outrage and raising concerns over selective enforcement of currency abuse laws.

Under Section 21(3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act 2007, spraying or stepping on the naira is a criminal offense punishable by fines, imprisonment, or both.

The EFCC emphasized: “Nobody is above the law. Tompolo will have questions to answer!”

This incident follows recent actions against celebrities like Bobrisky, who received a six-month jail term for similar offenses, and E-Money, who was arrested for spraying naira and US dollars at events.

The EFCC maintains its commitment to upholding the law, regardless of social status or political ties.
