Tinubu’s NNPC Shake-Up: Media, communication overhaul necessary -Gov’s Aide

*Why Strong Communication Must Follow

President Bola Tinubu’s recent overhaul of the NNPCL board and appointment of Bayo Ojulari as Group CEO reflects a drive for reform in Nigeria’s oil sector. But while leadership changes are welcome, the corporation’s long-standing communication gap remains a major concern.

A major issue plaguing the NNPCL has been its failure to maintain clear and consistent communication with the Nigerian public. From abrupt fuel price fluctuations without official explanations to disputes with key industry players like the Dangote Group and oil marketers, the corporation has often left citizens in the dark.

This lack of transparency breeds speculation, misinformation, and erodes public trust in the management of Nigeria’s most critical economic resources.

To move forward, NNPCL must adopt a digital-first communication strategy—offering real-time updates, proactive crisis responses, and clear engagement with stakeholders. Public education on pricing, policy, and operations is essential to rebuild trust.

Efficiency and transparency go hand-in-hand. For NNPCL’s reforms to succeed, strong, consistent communication must follow.
