Why I want to be Publicity Secretary of Uniuyo Alumni -Thomas Thomas
In 2016, during my Master’s programme at Delta State University, Abraka, I was shocked to discover that our beloved alma mater—Uniuyo—was virtually unknown beyond the triangular confines of Akwa Ibom State.
People genuinely asked if a university by that name even existed in Nigeria. That moment stayed with me. It was painful. It was unacceptable.
How can a federal university, blessed with academic excellence, brilliant alumni, and vibrant culture, remain hidden in the shadows—under-publicized and underrepresented on the national stage?
That is why, once I am elected as Publicity Secretary of the Uniuyo Alumni Association, I will work closely with the University’s management to project Uniuyo’s image beyond borders, amplify her voice across the nation, and ensure that the University of Uyo takes its rightful place in the community of great institutions—boldly heard and proudly seen.
Visibility is power. Let’s give Uniuyo the visibility she deserves.
