In what was described as one of the most keenly contested elections in recent times, Thomas Thomas has emerged as the newly elected Publicity Secretary of the University of Uyo Alumni Association. The announcement of his victory sparked a wave of goodwill messages across alumni networks, with many hailing the outcome as a testament to democratic spirit and alumni unity.
In a heartfelt appreciation letter made public shortly after the declaration, Thomas expressed deep humility and gratitude to the alumni body for entrusting him with the responsibility to serve. “Not that I am the best,” he wrote, “but the University of Uyo Alumni have chosen to send me to speak on their behalf this time—and for that, I am truly thankful.”
Thomas credited his success to divine providence, unwavering supporters, and the silent but impactful support of Akwa Ibom State Governor, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno. The governor, according to Thomas, personally reached out to encourage him, even though he had not been previously informed of the candidacy. That gesture, he noted, gave him the confidence to push forward.
The newly elected Publicity Secretary also extended special appreciation to the Alumni Association’s President, Comrade Ekerette Adiaiduo, for his leadership and the campaign team’s belief in his candidacy.
Thomas did not fail to acknowledge his core supporters—individuals who, according to him, stood by him from the beginning and offered encouragement throughout the campaign. Among them were Dr. Samuel Gregory Effiong (SameeGreg), Akan Samuel Udofia, Uko Clement, Emmanuel Asanga, Nsisong Innocent Samuel, Emem Thomas, Ime Silas, and Udeme Obo, among others.
In a rare show of sportsmanship, Thomas also praised his fellow contestants, Pastor Idy James and Elder Manasseh Umoette, describing them as men of “maturity, grace, and exemplary sportsmanship.” He noted that their electoral defeat was “only a matter of timing—not capability,” and commended their willingness to unite for the common good of the association.
Looking ahead, Thomas promised to serve with “pride, excellence, and integrity,” pledging to make the voice of Uniuyo alumni heard across all platforms.
The University of Uyo Alumni Association is one of the most vibrant and respected alumni bodies in Nigeria, with members spread across various sectors nationally and internationally. With Thomas Thomas at the helm of publicity, many look forward to a renewed era of engagement and visibility for the association.
