Bakassi Deep Seaport set for construction, as Gov Otu gets Navigational Charts

It’s a new dawn for Cross River State as Governor Bassey Otu receives the official Hydrographic, Geotechnical, and Navigational Chart Report for the proposed Bakassi Deep Seaport — replacing maps that date as far back as 1903.

Describing it as a “historic milestone,” Governor Otu said the chart reaffirms Cross River’s coastal status and opens the door for international shipping, economic growth, and regional development.

“This chart meets global standards and sets the stage for massive economic opportunities. With the coastal highway coming up, we are transforming into a major maritime hub,” the Governor declared.

The report was presented by Rear Admiral Ayo Olugbode, Hydrographer of the Federation, alongside top naval officers including the Chief of Naval Staff.

With the technical phase completed, the project now awaits FEC approval before construction begins.

The Bakassi Deep Seaport is set to revolutionize trade, create jobs, and boost Nigeria’s blue economy.
