Self-claimed spiritualist allegedly kills boy over social media faceoff

…Community leaders, activists demand justiceĀ

Shock and outrage have erupted following the brutal killing of a young boy in Amassoma community, Bayelsa State, after what police sources and community accounts describe as a violent escalation of a minor social media disagreement. The suspect, identified as a self-proclaimed Woyin spiritualist known as Bodmas Prince Kemepadei, is alleged to have traced the victim from an online exchange to his physical location and beaten him to death in a chilling act of rage.

According to multiple accounts from residents, the incident began with an exchange of words on social media that quickly turned hostile. Rather than disengage, the suspect allegedly took the confrontation offline, locating the boy in Amassoma and attacking him in public view. Witnesses say the assault was prolonged and vicious, leaving the victim fatally injured before help could arrive.

The killing has ignited anger across the community and beyond, with residents describing the act as senseless, barbaric, and emblematic of a growing culture of unchecked violence tied to online disputes. Community leaders have condemned the attack in the strongest terms, warning that allowing social media disagreements to spill into deadly street violence represents a dangerous breakdown of social order.

Security sources say investigations are underway, and the case is being treated as a homicide. Rights advocates are demanding swift arrest, transparent prosecution, and justice for the victim’s family, insisting that no claim of spirituality, influence, or local power should shield anyone from the law.
