The Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Labour Party, LP, has debunked rumours making the rounds to the effect that they have joined the African Democratic Congress, ADC, or the ‘Obidient’ movement.

In a statement signed by its Interim State Chairman, Obong N. Attention: Labour Party Members and Stakeholders

My attention has been drawn to an event scheduled for February 14th, involving the “Obidient” declaration for the ADC (African Democratic Congress).

While we acknowledge and appreciate their involvement in the journey of national recovery, as a Party, we remain resolute in our commitment to partnering with other opposition political Parties to rescue and redeem Nigeria for Nigerians. The Labour Party has long been committed to good governance and the rule of law.

The State Interim Executive Committee has been guided by this principle, and we believe all actions must align with directives from the national leadership, under the able guidance of Her Excellency, Distinguished Senator Nenadi Usman.

At no time has there been any directive from the national body for Labour Party members to join the ADC. And, the national leadership of our Party have made it abundantly clear that Labour Party is already in coalition with the NLC and TUC in her struggle for a better Nigeria. Members who choose to join the ADC, does so at their own discretion. Hence, any person or group operating under the name of the Labour Party without national approval does not represent the party.
