2027: Uproar as Miyetti Allah President, Bodejo remains in detention
…DSS, EFCC keep mum; Campaign Council kick
Pressure is piling on Taraba Central senatorial hopeful Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Bodejo to abandon his 2027 bid after the Department of State Service (DSS) arrested him in Jalingo on May 7, 2026, flew him to Abuja, and handed him to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), where he remains detained.
Sources say authorities told the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore president that withdrawing from the race is “one of the conditions for his release” and advised him to wait until 2031 instead.
His campaign DG, Alhaji Adamu Isa, slammed the arrest as humiliation “like a common criminal” in front of supporters, insisting Bodejo used “personal resources” to back Tinubu in 2023.
“If some people are not comfortable with Bodejo’s senatorial contest, they could have invited him to a dialogue rather than using security agents to intimidate and harass him,” Adamu said.
Adamu stressed Bodejo has the right to stay in the race, but “a genuine dialogue must take place”, noting the Taraba APC Consensus Committee never met him before the arrest. He urged APC national leaders to intervene, ensure justice, and “urgently” free Bodejo, while telling supporters to stay calm and law-abiding.
Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Bodejo is the National President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, a Fulani socio-cultural association in Nigeria.
Our paper gathered that Bodejo declared interest in contesting for the Taraba Central Senatorial seat under the APC for the 2027 elections.
On May 7, 2026, he visited the APC state secretariat in Jalingo to formally notify party officials.
He was accompanied by a large crowd of supporters from the 6 LGAs in Taraba Central. Shortly after that visit, he was arrested in Jalingo by DSS operatives on the evening of May 7, 2026.
It was learnt that following his arrest, he was taken from the Blue Nile Hotel around 6:30 pm and moved to an undisclosed location.
It was further gathered that the national assembly hopeful was later flown to Abuja where he was handed over to the EFCC. As of May 11, 2026, reports say he remains in EFCC custody.
His campaign council alleges the arrest is politically motivated and claims authorities offered to release him if he would agree to withdraw from the race and waits until 2031. The campaign council has called on the APC national leadership to intervene.
It could be recalled that Alhaji Bodejo was previously arrested in Jan 2024 and charged with a 3-count terrorism charge over unveiling a vigilante group in Nasarawa State. The FG withdrew the charge in May 2025 and he was discharged.
As Miyetti Allah president, Alhaji Bodejo has been a vocal figure in Fulani socio-political affairs and had campaigned for APC and President Tinubu in 2023.
As at the time of this report, neither DSS nor the EFCC had issued any official statement on the matter.
