The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency, Hon. Francis Barthlomew Omowale Chima, popularly known as OmoBarca, has inaugurated the Team Legit Movement, a grassroots political support group established to promote quality leadership, democratic participation and improved living conditions for residents.
The inauguration, held in Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Lagos, attracted a large turnout of supporters and members drawn from different communities across Ajegunle and the diaspora.
The organisers said the movement was established to mobilise citizens around the principles of democracy, responsible leadership and community development. They described its growing youth membership as one of its major strengths, noting that young people from different communities in Ajegunle are actively involved in the movement.
The event also attracted several dignitaries, community stakeholders and political enthusiasts who gathered to celebrate the inauguration and discuss the importance of citizen participation in governance.
Among those in attendance was CSP Afolabi Salau, Divisional Police Officer of Layeni Police Station, who represented the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu. The Inspector-General was also recognised with an award during the ceremony.
Other notable speakers included Mr Emmanuel Etu and Mr Goddy Odidi, who addressed participants on issues relating to civic engagement, responsible leadership and the role of citizens in strengthening democracy.
OmoBarca attended the ceremony as the Special Guest of Honour and received an Award of Excellence for Human Capital Development, Philanthropy and Exemplary Leadership from the leadership of Team Legit Movement.
The award, according to the organisers, was in recognition of Chima’s contributions to human capital development, philanthropy and community leadership.
The event also featured a colourful display of Ajegunle’s cultural heritage, with performances by several popular musicians from the community.
One of the major highlights of the evening was the performance by Ajegunle artiste Omojesu, which generated enthusiastic applause and excitement among attendees.
Following the performance, Chima pledged to reward the artiste with a 2019 Lexus Jeep by next year, subject to his electoral victory and, as he put it, “God willing.”
Other artistes who performed at the event were also appreciated with cash gifts running into hundreds of thousands of naira.
In a further show of support for the newly inaugurated movement, Chima donated ₦2 million to Team Legit Movement.
The NDC candidate commended the organisers for what he described as a well-coordinated, peaceful and successful event. He also praised the large turnout, particularly the participation of young people from different parts of Ajeromi-Ifelodun.
According to him, the energy and commitment demonstrated by members of Team Legit reflect the growing interest of residents, particularly youths, in political participation and community development.
Chima reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals of “Leadership with Value,” which he described as a guiding principle of his political aspiration.
He said his campaign would remain focused on leadership that places the welfare, dignity and development of the people at the centre of governance.
The NDC candidate also called for continued unity among residents of Ajeromi-Ifelodun, stressing the importance of collective action in building a better future for the constituency.
He concluded his remarks with a message that has become central to his campaign, declaring: “Ajegunle is our pride.”
The inauguration of Team Legit is expected to strengthen OmoBarca’s grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections, as political parties and candidates intensify efforts to build support structures across Lagos State.
