UYO, Akwa Ibom — The Faculty of Health Sciences at the National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, Uyo Study Centre, is set to host the second edition of its Health Week, a three-day programme aimed at promoting health education, student innovation, and community engagement.
The event, themed ‘Advancing Science and Education For Better Health’, will begin on Wednesday, 16th September, 2026, and run through to Friday, 18th September, 2026, with the Grand Finale scheduled for the final day.
According to the official invitation signed by the Centre Director, Ass. Prof. Uduak Irene Aletan, and the Faculty Desk Officer, Mr. Otobong Dominic Alexander, the week-long activities will take place at the NOUN, Uyo Study Centre, located along Udoudoma Avenue, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Organisers say the 2026 edition will feature a blend of academic, health, and social activities designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical health service delivery.
A major highlight of the programme will be the unveiling and launching of the Health Students’ Project: Sick Bay (Clinic). The project is described as a student-led initiative intended to provide basic healthcare support within the study centre and serve as a practical training hub for health sciences students.
Other highpoints include an award presentation to recognize outstanding contributions in health education in particular and academic advancement in general. Also billed as part of the epochal event are health talks, exhibitions, and other side attractions aimed at raising awareness on preventive healthcare.
The invitation, also signed on behalf of the Faculty of Health Sciences Students by the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Comrade Imo-Abasi Moses, and the Secretary, Patrick Esime, called on students, staff, health professionals, and members of the public to attend.
Speaking through the invitation, the organisers noted that the theme reflects the faculty’s commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and educational programmes that translate into better health outcomes for individuals and communities.
The first edition of the Health Week held last year, was well received by students and stakeholders in Uyo, and the 2026 edition is expected to build on that momentum with expanded participation and more practical interventions.
Registration for participants and partners is ongoing at the Faculty of Health Sciences office at the Uyo Study Centre ahead of the opening ceremony on Wednesday.
