Mr. Mairiga, staff of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) has been queried, ordered to make a representation within 24 hours why he should not be disciplined for unauthorized disclosure of official documents.
Mairiga who was detained by the Police for eight days, was alleged to have exposed documents disclosing how the FCT Minister, Chief Nyesom Wike allegedly allotted plots of land in the FCT to his own children.
According to a statement made available to the media by a lawyer and rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, Mairiga’s detention was illegal. He added it’s Wike that should have been investigated for corruption and not the FCDA staff.
Sowore said “Before releaNyesom Ezenwo Wike – CON, GSSRS staff member of the FCDA Lands Registry, the agency—under pressure from FCT Minister @Nyesom Ezenwo Wike issued him a query as a condition for his freedom.
Mr. Mairiga was unlawfully detained for 8 days after allegedly leaking documents that revealed illegal land allocations made by Minister Wike to his own children. Rather than investigate the corruption, the FCDA is persecuting the whistleblower.
“He has now been given 72 hours to respond to the query.
This is a clear case of abuse of power and intimidation of civil servants who dare to expose the rot in the system”
