…felicitates Akwa Ibom people on State Creation Anniversary

The candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for Ikot Abasi/Mkpat Enin/Eastern Obolo Federal Constituency, Engr. Ubong Idemudo, has assured his constituents that he will be their voice for employment, development and empowerment if elected into the House of Representatives in 2027.
Idemudo gave the assurance in his goodwill message to the people of his federal constituency and Akwa Ibom State on the occasion of the 39th anniversary of the creation of the state, dated Wednesday, 23rd September, 2026.
In the message, the NDC National Assembly hopeful felicitated with the government and people of Akwa Ibom State on the 39th anniversary, stressing that the celebration should also be used as a rallying point for reflection on the past, deliberation on the present and plan for the future.
“As we mark 39 years of our dear state, I celebrate with my people of Ikot Abasi, Mkpat Enin, Eastern Obolo and the entire Akwa Ibom State. God has indeed been faithful to us as a people,” Idemudo noted.
The NDC chieftain, however, said the anniversary should also be a period of reflection on the state of the federal constituency, which he said is endowed but grossly underdeveloped.
He bemoaned the high rate of unemployment and lack of infrastructure in the constituency, attributing it to consistent ineffective representation at the National Assembly over the years.
According to him, Ikot Abasi/Mkpat Enin/Eastern Obolo Federal Constituency which plays host to several major companies including the Aluminum Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON), Sterling Global and other oil and gas servicing companies in Eastern Obolo, is supposed to be a hub of employments and all-round development.
“It is unfortunate that a constituency that hosts ALSCON, Sterling Global and several other companies is still grappling with unemployment and underdevelopment. Ordinarily, our constituency should be a hub of employments and all-round development. Our youths should be engaged, our communities should be developed, our small businesses should be thriving because of the industrial presence here. But the reverse is the case because we have lacked effective voice in Abuja who would spearhead and ensure that what ought to be, come to be,” Idemudo lamented.
The NDC candidate said the people of the constituency have not enjoyed adequate benefits from local content, corporate social responsibility and federal presence due to poor lobbying and weak legislative advocacy.
He assured that if given the mandate on the platform of the NDC in 2027, he would change the narrative and make the welfare of the people his priority.
“If elected to represent Ikot Abasi/Mkpat Enin/Eastern Obolo Federal Constituency in 2027, I will speak for your employment, I will speak for your development and I will speak for your empowerment. That is my covenant with you. I will not go to Abuja to be silent while my people suffer,” he pledged.
Idemudo promised to engage all the relevant quarters to speed up action on the rejuvenation of ALSCON. He also pledged to engage Sterling Global and other operating companies to ensure compliance with local employment and community development obligations, attract federal projects, and initiate a constituency employment and empowerment framework that will capture youths, women and artisans across the three local government areas.
He wished Akwa Ibom State a happy 39th anniversary and called on his constituents to keep hope alive and prepare to elect purposeful representation in 2027 under the NDC.
“Together, we will restore our constituency to its rightful place as a hub of jobs, development and opportunity,” he added.
