As the August 2 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) elections approach, momentum continues to build behind the candidacy of Comrade Nsibiet Udo John, as the Amalgamated Newspaper Publishers Association (ANPA), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, has unanimously endorsed him as their sole candidate for the NUJ Chairmanship.
The endorsement was formalized during an enlarged meeting of the Association held at CEEDAPEC Hotel & Suites, Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo. The motion for endorsement was moved by Comrade Ephraim Ikpe of Waves Newspaper and seconded by Apostle Samuel Joshua of Golden Times Newspaper. Both emphasised that Comrade Nsibiet John possesses the requisite experience, integrity, and vision to take the Union to greater heights.
Speaking at the event, the President-General of ANPA, Comrade Osuini-Abasi Alfred, explained that the decision was reached after a thorough analysis of the track records of past administrations led by Patrick Albert and Amos Etuk. According to him, of all four contenders vying for the chairmanship, only Comrade Nsibiet John has shown the capacity to build upon the gains made by his predecessors.
Corroborating this position, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Comrade Ernest Akpan, described Comrade Nsibiet John as “tested, trusted, and confirmed.” He maintained that the aspirant has consistently demonstrated leadership, commitment, and a passion for journalism that makes him the ideal candidate to lead the NUJ in Akwa Ibom State.
The publishers—98% of whom are certified journalists—took turns to express their support, charging Comrade Nsibiet to ensure inclusivity and transparency in his administration, if elected. They emphasized the need for a government where every journalist’s voice will count.
The high point of the meeting was the formal and unanimous adoption of Comrade Nsibiet John by the association to run for the coveted position.
With ANPA’s endorsement, Comrade Nsibiet’s campaign receives a major boost, signalling increased consolidation ahead of the decisive August 2 poll.
