Select Journalists, under the auspices of Friends Of Nsibiet Udoh John – FONUJ have endorsed Comrade Nsibiet John of the Federated Chapel to contest for the Chairmanship position of the Nigeria Union of Journalists – NUJ, Akwa Ibom State during the August 2 council election.
The group led by the publisher of the award-winning newspaper, TheMail, Comrade Ifreke Nseowo, cited Comrade John’s vast experience and dedication to the field of journalism as reasons for their endorsement.
Speaking during a surprise visit to Comrade John at his Ink Newspaper office, Nseowo said his leadership skills, passion for press freedom, and commitment to ethical journalism from his days as the Editor-in-Chief of the Pulse Newspaper, and now the Publisher of the Ink Newspaper as well as the immediate past Chairman of one of the largest chapels in the NUJ, Federated Chapel, make him the ideal candidate for the position.
He highlighted some of his achievements, including his role in mentoring young journalists to become some of the best pen pushers in the journalism profession, his investigative reporting that led to significant reforms in government and also emphasized his ability to unite and inspire journalists from diverse backgrounds.
Other members of the group who spoke, expressed confidence in the leadership ability of Comrade Nsibiet John, adding that he has the vision and expertise to take the NUJ to new heights from the standard set by the incumbent, Comrade Amos Etuk.
The group presented some branded Tshirts to Comrade Nsibiet John and promised to support him before, during and after the August 2025 NUJ State election.
Responding, Comrade John who described the surprise visit as an ambushed, thanked members of the group which he called his friends in journalism for their kind words and gesture, and most importantly believing in his leadership ability.
He accepted the endorsement and commended all past leaders of the union and the current Amos Etuk-led NUJ for achieving a lot and repositioning the journalism profession in the state, and promised to sustain the ideals of the founding fathers if elected as the next Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council.
