By our correspondent

BENIN CITY — Enugu Air has confirmed that one of its aircraft was involved in a runway incident shortly after landing at Benin Airport earlier today, but the airline said all passengers and crew disembarked safely with no injuries reported.

In a public notice released to passengers and the general public, the airline stated that the incident occurred upon landing, and immediate safety protocols were activated. According to Enugu Air, everyone onboard was accounted for and safely evacuated from the aircraft.

“All passengers and crew members have safely disembarked, and no injuries or casualties have been reported,” the statement said.

The airline said the aircraft involved has since been secured on the ground, and relevant aviation authorities have been notified in line with standard operating procedures. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority are among the agencies expected to be involved in reviewing the circumstances of the incident.

According to the Airline, a comprehensive assessment of both the aircraft and the events leading to the incident is currently ongoing. The airline did not provide details on the nature of the runway incident, the aircraft type, or the flight number, saying that investigations are still at an early stage.

Because of the occurrence, the airline warned that some flight schedules may be temporarily affected. Passengers whose travel plans are impacted will be contacted directly and offered the necessary support and rebooking options.

“The occurrence may result in temporary adjustments to some flight schedules. Passengers whose flights are affected will be contacted directly and provided with the necessary support,” Enugu Air stated.

Benin Airport, which serves Edo State and neighboring communities, remains operational. Airport authorities have not announced any prolonged closure, but travelers have been advised to check with their airlines for updates before heading to the terminal.

Enugu Air, a regional carrier operating domestic routes within Nigeria, reiterated its commitment to safety as its top priority. The airline said it is cooperating fully with investigators and will share more information as it becomes available.

“Enugu Air remains committed to the highest standards of passenger and operational safety. Further updates will be communicated through the airline’s official channels as more information becomes available,” the statement read.

The airline also thanked passengers and members of the public for their understanding and cooperation while the assessment continues.

Runway incidents, which can range from veering off the runway to gear-related issues, are routinely investigated by aviation authorities to determine causes and prevent future occurrences. In Nigeria, such investigations typically include examination of weather conditions, aircraft maintenance records, and crew procedures at the time of landing.

The airline stressed further that its focus is on supporting affected passengers and ensuring the safe resumption of its full schedule. Travelers are encouraged to monitor the airline’s official website and social media pages for updates in the coming hours.
