By Ime Silas

The Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Anieti Nseowo Udofia has resigned from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

The Commissioner who disclosed this on Wednesday at Nnung Asang Ikono, Uyo Ward 9, Uyo local government area while joining formally the All Progressives Congress, APC, said his move was in line with his boss, Gov Umo Eno’s progressive movement into the new party.

He commended Gov Umo Eno for being the first governor to remember Ikono clan. Dr. Udofia also appreciated Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Political Leader of Uyo, Prince Enobong Uwah for promoting peace in the area.

“I want to specially thank my boss, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno for coming to the aid of Ikono within the first two years of his administration”, Dr. Udofia said, expressing the hope that before the end of the tenure, Ikono Clan would have enough reasons to celebrate.

He continued “I remember when we came for the burial of Late Chief Ekiko, His Excellency The Governor after a handshake with me, asked me ‘are you from here’ and I said yes.

I remember that during the burial, His Excellency made a pronouncement to construct a five kilometers of road from where the world Bank road project would end, to somewhere around Urua Usung. I’m happy to announce to you here that that road project would be part of the needs assessment paper that would be submitted to the governor.

As far we all know, since I was born, Ikono clan haven’t had any road before. But just within two years of Governor Umo Eno’s administration, there’s a road project being undertaken in partnership with World Bank beginning from Ikot Ekan down here.

If this is achieved just within two years, there’s hope that before the end of four years of this administration, we shall have a road that would link Ikono clan to Ikot Ekpeyak upto Abak Road”.

He further thanked the members and leadership of the APC at the Ward for their steadfastness which he noted, kept the party strong.

Speaking to newsmen on the sidelines of the meeting, the Secretary of APC in Ward 9, Mr. Ndueso Udokang congratulated the state governor on the successful movement into the party.
