The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has again recorded a breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements following the arrest of two suspected vandals.
This was disclosed via a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Akwa Ibom State Command, DSP Timfon John.
According to the release, “On the 17th of July 2025, at approximately 5:45AM, Operatives of the Command successfully apprehended two suspects attempting to vandalize a transformer in Ikot Imoh Village.
The arrest followed a distress call received from a man (name withheld) reporting suspicious activity around the transformer installation in Ikot Imoh Village, prompting a rapid response from the Police.
“Upon arrival at the scene, officers encountered a group of individuals attempting to tamper with the transformer. Two suspects, identified as Asuquo Effiong, 29yrs of Ibesikpo Asutan LGA, Akwa Ibom State, and Chidiebere Onwe, 30yrs of Nkanu LGA, Enugu State, were apprehended. Other members of the gang fled the scene upon sighting the police.
Items recovered at the scene include:
* Two seventeen-combination flat spanners
* One hose pipe
* One large heavy-duty cutter
* One pipe wrench with socket”.
The statement added that investigation was ongoing.
