Breaking! Again, PDP depleted; loses two serving governors

By our correspondent

The governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Sir Sim Fubara has defected from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Our paper gathered that the River State governor who recently returned to office after a six months suspension, announced his defection today during a stakeholders meeting.

In the same vein, the governor of Osun state, Mr. Ademola Adeleke has formally joined the Accord Party.

Recall that Gov Adeleke last week, withdrew his nomination form which he had purchased to seek a reelection, from the PDP and also announced his resignation from the party.

With the latest defections, the PDP has been further depleted while its political and numerical strengths ahead of the 2027 general elections have been seriously affected.

As it stands, the entire southern Nigeria has been taken over by the APC. For instance, the South-south region which hitherto was the stronghold of the PDP, has fully become the ‘APC zone’.

The Southeast has no PDP, while the APC has three states of Imo, Ebonyi and Enugu. The two remaining states of Abia and Anambra are governed by the Labour Party (LP) and the APGA.

The southwest has only Oyo state governed by the PDP while Lagos, Ogun, Ekiti and Ondo are APC states. With Gov Adeleke’s defection, Accord Party now has one state in the Southwest.
