Breaking! Police DPO beaten to death; station, vehicles razed
…as community protests suspect’s death in custody
A Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at the Rano Divisional Headquarters in Rano Local Government Area of Kano State has been killed by a mob.
The DPO, identified as M.A. Baba, was attacked after an angry crowd stormed the police station, accusing him of arresting and torturing a suspect to death.
Sources told newsmen that enraged residents of the Rano community invaded the police station, setting it ablaze, and beating the DPO. He later died from his injuries in the hospital.
During the unrest, several vehicles were torched and others vandalized in the violent confrontation between local youths and police officers.
“The people of the community retaliated by invading the police station, set it ablaze, and beat up the DPO. The DPO died after he was taken to the hospital.”
